Great observation, Sandra. And I think that's also an important point for us to remember in our lives!

I have tried to imagine being one of those people who was healed, or even someone who witnessed such a healing, and I cannot fathom being able to NOT tell people about such a thing! And I'm pretty sure that people would be asking how I got healed, which would make it even more likely that I would tell people.

Good points about faith instead of "touch," Holly! That topic comes up a few times in the Gospels, and it is obviously important.

There is, as I've said, no "right" answer, as far as I know. And in cases like this, I always figure that if it were important that I know the exact reason, it would not have been left out.

Here's what I've come to -- and again, it's not authoritative. We haven't gotten to it yet, but John 2:1-11 starts out with the narration of Christ's first miracle, where he produced wine from water.

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%202%3A1-11&version=HCSB;KJV

After his mother tells Jesus that the host had run out of wine, Jesus said to her, "What has this concern of yours to do with me, woman? My hour has not yet come."

When I went to find out what that could have been about, I read prophecy after prophecy in the Old Testament which were specific about when the Son of God would die and when he would be resurrected. It was clear that he had to fulfill those prophecies, just as He had done with His birth.

So, that being the case, I would think that if word of his miracles reached the "wrong" people before Christ's "hour," it could cause things to go in the wrong order or His crucifixion to happen in the wrong time.

But as I said, there is no "right answer" as far as I have been able to tell, and the answer has no bearing on whether we are saved or not, so I just find it interesting to think about.

In verses 11-12, I think Jesus is referring to what the physical descents of Abraham, thought was unthinkable, ie the ideal of Gentiles taking their place in the Kingdom.
In verse 17, my thought is that it is referring to Jesus dying on the cross. Suffering Himself for our sins?.
Verses 20-22, the scribe is "all words", saying he will follow Him wherever he goes, but only after he does what he wants first. In reality today, we need to step back a moment and pause, and question ourselves; "Am I putting God and my faith first, before everything else, or am I making excuses of being to busy, etc.?"

I'm leaving this up for an extra week in the hopes that we will get some discussion going.

I hate to be the only one -- or even the first one -- to comment because it adds to the illusion that I am "running" this study, when in fact, we all are.

Well...in reference to the first question, I think back to Matthew 6 . "Be careful not to do your "acts of righteousness" before men , to be seen by them. When you give to the needy do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the street, to be honored by men." Jesus was humble and he teaches us that all good deeds will be recognized in the eyes of God.

Hmm . . . In terms of the first question, maybe Jesus wanted people to see that they could be healed through faith. In other words, not only Jesus touch, but faith in God. To practice faith in their lives wherever they aren't what do you think?
